European Heritage Days - Visit the Old Customs House

The former customs of Châtel, transformed into an interpretation centre, transports you into the picturesque history of smuggling in the mountains on the slopes of the Portes du Soleil at the Franco-Swiss border.

To mark its 10th anniversary, the interpretation center is highlighting the stories of the customs officers who once lived within these walls through the new temporary exhibition “Everything Must Be Declared!”

Temporary exhibition: “Everything to Declare!… From the Customs Office to the Museum of Smuggling.”
From its construction in the 1920s to the departure of the last customs officers in 2009 and the first tours of the interpretation center, a lot has happened at the Châtel customs house! This unique temporary exhibition shares anecdotes from the former customs officers who worked in these premises for nearly a century!
